Rameses is the Egyptian region where Joseph settles Jacob's family and where Israel later builds a store-city; in Exodus 12 the Israelites leave Rameses for Succoth.

Joseph then settled his father and brothers, giving them land holdings in Egypt, in the best part of the country, the region of Rameses, as Pharaoh had ordered.

Accordingly they put taskmasters over the Israelites to wear them down by forced labour. In this way they built the store-cities of Pithom and Rameses for Pharaoh.
