field

Cultivated land; the feast of Harvest is the first-fruits of labours in sowing the fields, and Ingathering comes once the fruits are brought in from the fields.

fig-leaves

Fig leaves were sewn by Adam and Eve as makeshift coverings after the fall.

fine-linen

Fine linen is given as a freewill contribution. Ten sheets form the Dwelling; the curtain, screens and court hangings are of the same linen. Aaron's vestments, ephod, breastplate, tunic and turban are of finely woven linen.

fire

Fire appears in Sodom's judgment and on Sinai; Israel must not light a fire on the Sabbath day in any of their homes.

firepot

A smoking firepot appears in Abram's covenant vision, passing between the divided pieces.

first-fruits

The feast of Weeks is the first-fruits of the wheat harvest; Israel must bring the best of the first-fruits of the soil to the house of Yahweh.

flint

On the journey back to Egypt Zipporah takes a flint, circumcises her son, and touches Moses' feet, calling him her blood-bridegroom.

flour

Sarah kneaded fine flour to prepare loaves for Abraham's guests. At the priests' consecration the unleavened bread, cakes and wafers are of fine wheat flour; each daily lamb is offered with one-tenth of a measure of fine flour mixed with oil.

flower

A flower of pure gold engraved like a seal with 'Consecrated to Yahweh'. It hangs on a violet-purple cord on the front of Aaron's turban, on his brow, so that he takes on the shortcomings of Israel's holy offerings. At consecration it is put on the turban as the symbol of holy consecration.

fodder

Fodder is prepared for the camels when Abraham's servant is hosted in Rebekah's household and for the brothers' donkeys at Joseph's house in Genesis 43.

foreskin

Foreskin circumcision is the Abrahamic covenant sign; in Exodus 4 Zipporah cuts off her son's foreskin with a flint to avert Yahweh's threat on the journey.

frames

Vertical frames of acacia wood for the Dwelling, each ten cubits long and one and a half cubits wide, with twin tenons. Twenty stand on the south, twenty on the north, six at the west, and two at the corners — eight at the back with their silver sockets.

frankincense

Pure frankincense, in equal parts with storax, onycha and galbanum, is compounded into a salted, pure, and holy incense. Some is ground very fine and put in front of the Testimony in the Tent of Meeting.

frogs

Frogs are the next plague promised to Pharaoh; they swarm into homes, bedrooms, ovens and kneading bowls in Exodus 7.
