hail

Hail accompanied by lightning devastates Egypt's fields, men, beasts, and trees in Exodus 9, while Goshen is spared.

harp

The harp appears in Jubal's musical line and in Laban's lament that Jacob fled without songs, tambourines, and harps.

head-dresses

Head-dresses made for Aaron's sons, with tunics and waistbands, to give dignity and magnificence when they are consecrated to the priesthood. At investiture they are put on the sons' heads.

heifer

A three-year-old heifer is one of the animals brought for Abram's covenant rite.

Holy of Holies

The inner room of the Dwelling, behind the curtain. The ark of the Testimony stands there with the mercy-seat on it.

Holy Place

The outer room of the Dwelling, divided from the Holy of Holies by the curtain. The table stands on its north side and the lamp-stand on the south.

honey

Honey is among Canaan's best products sent to Joseph; Exodus 13 promises a country flowing with milk and honey; manna in Exodus 16 tastes like wafers made with honey. After the calf Yahweh still sends Israel toward a country flowing with milk and honey.

hornets

Yahweh will send hornets ahead of Israel to drive Hivite, Canaanite and Hittite out, little by little, until Israel's numbers are sufficient to take the land.

horns

The ram seen by Abraham at Moriah is caught by its horns in a bush. The bronze altar of the Dwelling has horns of a piece with it at its four corners. At the priests' consecration some of the bull's blood is put on those horns with the finger. The incense altar's horns are of a piece with it and overlaid with gold; once a year Aaron makes expiation on them.

horse

Riding animal; the Song of the Sea celebrates that Yahweh has thrown horse and rider into the sea.

horseflies

Horseflies are sent as a plague on Egypt; Goshen is exempt and Israel’s region is spared in Exodus 8.

household-idols

Rachel appropriates Laban's household idols when Jacob flees Paddan-Aram; in Genesis 35 Jacob has his household surrender all such foreign gods, which he buries under the oak near Shechem.

hyacinth

A precious stone in the third row of the breastplate of judgement, with ruby and amethyst.

hyssop

A bunch of hyssop is dipped in the Passover blood in the basin and used to touch the lintel and both door-posts.
