The glory of Yahweh appears in the cloud as Aaron speaks to Israel in the desert of Sin, before quails and manna are given. At the Tent of Meeting the pillar of cloud stations itself at the entrance while Yahweh speaks with Moses.

    Yahweh preceded them, by day in a pillar of cloud to show them the way, and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, so that they could march by day and by night.
